Cross Protection in Every Droplet

Protection Against GA08, GA13 and DVM/1639/11 IBV Types

poussin-securechick

Cevac® IBron™ is a live monovalent bronchitis vaccine containing the Georgia (GA) serotype of IBV. This vaccine is recommended for use in healthy chickens one day of age or older against bronchitis caused by IBV GA08 and IBV GA13 via the coarse spray route and IBV GA08 and IBV DMV/1639/11 via gel droplet by oral administration.

A live monovalent bronchitis vaccine

Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) is caused by a chicken coronavirus which is highly contagious and present all over the world. The virus has the ability to replicate and cause lesions in the respiratory tract, kidney and oviduct of the birds, which can lead to increased morbidity and mortality, in addition to decreased egg production and quality in breeders and layers.

The IBV virus is also characterized by its capacity to mutate. Variant IBV strains are continually emerging and breaking through conventional vaccine regimens, creating the need for additional safe and efficacious commercial vaccines. Among the variants currently circulating in the US, Georgia 08 (GA08) and Georgia 13 (GA13), both with respiratory tropism, and DMV/1639/11, a nephropathogenic virus originally isolated from the Delmarva Peninsula, are major concerns for chicken producers.

Developed for effective IBV protection

Six independent efficacy studies were conducted by vaccinating day of age SPF chicks by either coarse (aqueous) spray or gel droplet (three studies for each route). In each trial, chicks were challenged with a virulent strain of IBV (GA08, GA13 or DMV/1639/11) at 28 days post vaccination. Protection was determined based on virus isolation of tracheal swabs at five days post challenge.

In all six trials, when challenged with GA08, GA13 or DMV/1639/11, Cevac IBron® demonstrated significant protection (P < 0.0001) in chicks vaccinated by either the coarse spray or gel droplet route. IBV was isolated from greater than 90% of the chicks in the placebo-vaccinated challenged control group.

INFECTIOUS BRONCHITIS

Avian infectious bronchitis (IB) is probably one of the most widespread poultry diseases around the world, due to its highly contagious nature. It is caused by a gamma coronavirus that affects the respiratory, urinary, and reproductive systems of the chickens, causing different disorders depending on the tissue tropism characteristics of the invading viral strain.

An additional issue is the high mutation rate and recombination ability of the IB virus. For this reason, there is not one single IB virus, but many IB viruses.
